Major manga and anime franchises for collectible figures
The collectible figure market now covers both the great classics of Japanese animation and manga series that have become international phenomena. Dragon Ball, Saint Seiya, Naruto and One Piece naturally occupy an important place, with characters and transformations represented across numerous ranges over the years.
Other universes also benefit from a wide selection, including Demon Slayer, Berserk, My Hero Academia and Grendizer. The types of products vary considerably depending on the licence: articulated figures designed for posing, fixed-pose models depicting a specific attack or scene, larger statues, and figures to assemble such as Blokees.
Our catalogue also includes less mainstream licences such as Attack on Titan, Ghost in the Shell and Evangelion. These do not necessarily have an extensive range of merchandise, but they make it possible to broaden a collection with other major universes from manga and Japanese animation culture.
Articulated manga figures: S.H.Figuarts, Figma, Revoltech, Myth Cloth and Chou-Dan-Kadou
Collectors who like to regularly change the poses of their characters can choose from several major families of articulated figures.
S.H.Figuarts by Bandai Tamashii Nations cover numerous licences such as Dragon Ball, Naruto, One Piece and My Hero Academia. Their design is based on a relatively compact format, articulation that allows the characters' signature poses to be recreated, and interchangeable hands and faces.
Figma figures are primarily developed by Max Factory and distributed by Good Smile Company. They also feature articulated bodies and are supplied with accessories and a display stand.
Kaiyodo develops Revoltech, a long-established range of articulated figures that continues to cover licences from manga and Japanese animation. The brand places particular emphasis on its articulation systems and produces human characters, creatures and mecha alike. Attack on Titan and Evangelion are among the licences currently represented in the range.
Saint Seiya Saint Cloth Myth figures by Bandai Tamashii Nations are based on a rather distinctive concept: an articulated body is fitted with armour made from metal and plastic parts, which can either be worn by the character or assembled separately in its Object form. Interchangeable hands, faces and other elements provide numerous posing and display options. This combination of posing, armour assembly and separate Object display is one of the range's defining features.
Sentinel offers a concept with certain similarities to Saint Cloth Myth through its Chou-Dan-Kadou Yoroiden Samurai Troopers figures: the articulated character wears removable armour that can also be assembled separately on its stand. The design and materials are nevertheless different, notably with the use of ABS, PVC, POM and magnetic systems for certain armour components. The figures measure approximately 14.5 to 15 cm depending on the character.
Fixed-pose figures: Figuarts ZERO, POP UP PARADE and ARTFX
Fixed-pose figures take a different approach: the pose is determined during the design process to highlight a particular attitude, transformation or scene.
Figuarts ZERO by Bandai Tamashii Nations are known for their dynamic sculpting and visual effects. Some variations, such as EXTRA BATTLE, focus on action scenes with even more elaborate effects, while STARTune introduces compositions resembling small vignettes or dioramas.
POP UP PARADE figures by Good Smile Company generally occupy a very accessible price range. They are designed as easy-to-collect pre-painted figures without a fixed scale and cover numerous licences from anime, manga and video games.
At Kotobukiya, ARTFX is particularly associated with characters from Japanese animation and pop culture. Unlike collections without a consistent scale, many ARTFX are genuine scale figures, frequently produced at 1/8 scale and made primarily from pre-painted PVC and ABS. Demon Slayer, My Hero Academia, Fullmetal Alchemist and Jujutsu Kaisen are among the licences represented in this collection.
MegaHouse: ranges built around very different concepts
MegaHouse occupies a distinctive position in the manga figure market by developing several collections with very different philosophies.
Portrait.Of.Pirates, commonly abbreviated as P.O.P, has been exclusively dedicated to One Piece since 2004. MegaHouse has gradually developed numerous sub-ranges, from the earliest P.O.P figures to the larger and more premium MAXIMUM editions.
The G.E.M. Series brings together higher-quality fixed-pose figures from numerous manga and anime series. It does not correspond to a single format: MegaHouse offers both small Palm Size versions and figures of considerably larger dimensions.
The Gals Series focuses on female characters and notably includes Naruto Gals as well as models from Evangelion. MegaHouse presents it as a collection that reinterprets female characters from different works through its own approach.
Variable Action Heroes follow a different philosophy, as they are articulated figures. MegaHouse focuses on combining sculpting, paintwork, interchangeable expressions and mobility; the One Piece models are frequently around 18 to 19 cm tall.
Finally, Desktop Real McCoy translates famous illustrations into three-dimensional compositions in a relatively compact format. The range is particularly known for its Dragon Ball scenes, which sometimes combine several characters, vehicles and environmental elements.
How to choose a manga figure range
There is no single ideal range for every collection. The choice depends first and foremost on how the figure will be used and displayed.
An articulated figure such as an S.H.Figuarts, Figma or Revoltech will be better suited to a collector who enjoys experimenting with poses, regularly changing their display or photographing their characters. A fixed-pose figure, on the other hand, provides an immediately complete composition defined by the sculptor, sometimes accompanied by effects that would be difficult to reproduce on an articulated figure.
Available space is also an important consideration. Two figures advertised at a similar height can occupy very different amounts of space depending on their pose, base or effects.
It is also entirely possible to combine several manufacturers and ranges within the same collection. Choosing pieces that genuinely appeal to you and displaying them thoughtfully will make your collection unique and personal.
